Whether you are a firefighter, a paramedic or a public safety manager, your career depends on your Storm Training. Without it, you will be in danger of injury and even death in the line of duty. From basic training to advanced paramedic training, to their line of specialty paramedics, your career depends on your ability to train properly.
Unfortunately, there is a growing epidemic in the United States, where paramedics and firefighters are learning what they need to know, but they never use their lifesaving skills. Most schools have not properly covered in the training and many teachers do not even know how it should be taught.
Let me tell you what a critical element is in fire and paramedic training. It is CPR. Only when you learn this crucial element, do you learn how to teach it and teach it correctly.
You must get your fire and paramedic training, so that you can help people before they become injured. If you do not know how to do CPR, then the first thing you are going to do is put your life at risk. But if you do, then you will be able to save lives.
The same can be said for a fireman. There is no reason that you should not be able to apply what you learned in school, while on the job. You can learn from video as well as live classes, or through a traditional classroom setting.
Now then, you can go to any department in any city, state or country, and you will find that there is a lot of poor training. At times, you will find paramedics and firefighters that do not know how to do a lifesaving technique. So, if you are lucky enough to find a school, that is up to par with the standards, then congratulations, you are ready to move up.
For example, in EMS, CPR and first aid training, and basic life support training are part of the syllabus. If your fire department doesn’t have a program, they don’t have to worry about making sure that they are meeting the standard. What that means is that if they are really short on a firefighter, or a paramedic, they can have someone go in to do a little CPR and learn some basic lifesaving techniques.
If your town does not have any basic fire fighting or first aid programs, they may need to expand their budget, and add some for the paramedics and firefighters that are on the line. What that means is that every department needs to be prepared to help out when they are called out. If your department doesn’t have a basic lifesaving program, it’s time to start adding one.
