Tornado Preparedness

While most of us think that a tornado warning is the same as a tornado watch, tornado preparedness is different. There are some things you should prepare before and after the tornado and even if the tornado goes through you need to be ready for your home and personal possessions. Here are some ways you can prepare for a tornado.

Shelter Your Family – Nowadays, the most important thing is not to leave your family behind in the tornado’s path. Even if you do not know exactly where you will go when it passes, you can find a safe place for your family. If you can get close to your home or outside, it would be best. You also want to leave everyone behind with food and water.

Create a Plan – First of all, you should know where to go if the tornado is severe and you need to evacuate. If you live near the tornado, you might want to call your neighbors to see if they have a place to go. Do not try to save your home or property with your own two hands if there is no shelter available.

Food and Water – The most important thing during a tornado is to be able to stay hydrated. The only way you will be able to survive is to be able to keep yourself well-hydrated. If you run out of water, you will dehydrate quickly and be unable to carry on until you can get some more.

Create a Map – You may not be able to see the tornado approaching but if you have a map of your area, you can stay clear of any danger. Knowing where you are and where the tornado is headed will help you get out of harm’s way when it is happening. It will also help you know where you are supposed to go and what you should do. If the tornado is severe, you can plan ahead and know where you should go when it passes through.

Create a Weather Report – Having a weather report before a tornado strike is your best chance of survival. Many people try to escape from the storm by walking away and ignoring the storm, but this is a very bad idea. You can do a weather forecast before the storm so that you can prepare for what will happen when it hits.

Make Sure All Power Outages Is Fixing – If there is an electric outage, make sure that you have your batteries charged and that you have enough food and water for everyone. If you are going to get out of the storm, you need to be ready for what comes next. As you know, tornadoes do not take a lot of damage in themselves, but they can still knock down buildings and cause deaths. Prepare yourself with the knowledge you need.

Don’t try to predict the weather before a tornado strikes. It will not help you. A tornado is unpredictable and there is no way to prepare for what is going to happen.
